Samsung dryer error codes and what they usually mean

• HE, HC: heater problem. Heating element, thermal fuse, thermostat or heater relay.
• tS, tO, tC, tE: thermistor (temperature sensor) open or shorted.
• dC, dE, dF, dO: door open, or a door switch fault.
• bE, bE2: a button is stuck.
• 9C1, 9E1: supply voltage problem, often one leg of the 240 V supply missing.
• FE: power frequency error.
• 3C: motor fault.
• AC, AE: communication between boards.
• Cl, FiLtEr: clean the lint filter reminder; not a fault.
• Et, EE: control board memory error.

Symptoms without a code

Runs but no heat

The heating element, a blown thermal fuse, the cycling thermostat, or the heater relay on the control board. A dryer that tumbles but never heats can also be a tripped breaker on one leg of the 240 V supply, so check the panel first.

Takes two cycles to dry

Almost always airflow: a lint-packed vent run, a crushed flex hose, or moisture-sensor bars coated with dryer-sheet residue so the dryer thinks the load is dry too early or too late.

Drum will not turn

A broken belt, a seized idler pulley, worn drum rollers, or the motor.

Thumping, squealing or scraping

Drum rollers, the idler pulley, worn felt glides, or a blower wheel with a sock in it.

Stops mid-cycle

Overheating from a blocked vent, a failing thermistor, or a door switch that opens with vibration.

Will not start

The door switch, the thermal fuse, the start switch, or the control board.
