Ice Maker Repair Service in Surrey

An ice maker is a small machine living inside a big one. A water valve, a fill tube, a mould with a heater, a thermostat or optical sensor, an ejector motor and a control board all have to work in turn, and the freezer around them has to stay cold enough. Amar Appliance Repair diagnoses and repairs built-in ice makers in French-door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer refrigerators across Surrey and the surrounding cities.

Check these before you call

  • The freezer should read minus 18 C or colder. An ice maker will not cycle in a warm freezer.
  • The shut-off arm or the on-off switch should be in the on position; it is easy to knock while loading the freezer.
  • The water shut-off valve behind the fridge should be fully open, and the water filter should be less than six months old.
  • Many models have a reset or test button under the ice maker. Press it once, then allow 24 hours for a full harvest.

Symptoms and what usually causes them

No ice at all

A frozen fill tube, a failed water inlet valve, a stuck ejector or control arm, a failed thermostat or optical sensor, or a dead ice maker module. Low water pressure and a clogged filter starve the mould so it never fills enough to cycle.

Small, hollow or cloudy cubes

Not enough water reaching the mould: restricted water pressure, an old filter, or an inlet valve that opens only partly. Cloudy cubes are usually mineral content and are normal; hollow cubes are not.

Ice is made, but it will not dispense

A clumped bin, a frozen chute, a broken dispenser flap, a failed auger motor, or the dispenser switch and solenoid. Ice that sits unused for weeks welds itself into a block, so we ask how often the dispenser is used.

Water or frost in the bin, leaks under the fridge

A fill tube that misses the mould, a valve that dribbles after it should close, or a door gasket letting humid air in. Frost inside the ice compartment on some Samsung French-door models is a common complaint; we clear the ice, fix the leak path where the design allows it, and tell you plainly if the problem is likely to return.

Bad-tasting ice

An overdue filter, old ice absorbing freezer odours, or a spoiled water line. Empty the bin, replace the filter and let the maker run two cycles before judging it.

Noise from the ice maker

Buzzing during fill is the inlet valve; loud clunking is the ejector or auger straining against ice; grinding points to the auger motor.

Brands

Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, KitchenAid, Kenmore, Maytag, Bosch and Electrolux refrigerators with built-in ice makers and through-the-door dispensers.

What happens when you call

Have the model number ready; it is on a label inside the fresh-food compartment. We test the water supply, the temperature and the ice maker's own cycle on site, then explain what failed and what the repair involves before starting.
