Bosch error codes and what they usually mean

Summarized from Bosch owner manuals. Codes show as E followed by a number, or as blinking indicator lights on models without a display.

• E15: water in the base pan has tripped the leak sensor. Sometimes a one-time overflow; often a real leak from the door seal, a hose, the pump or the sump.
• E24: not draining. A kinked or badly routed drain hose, a stuck check valve, or a garburator connection whose knock-out plug was never removed.
• E25: drain pump blocked or impeller failure. Usually glass or a fruit sticker in the pump.
• E22: filter clogged, or water left in the sump.
• E09: heating element or heat pump fault.
• E01, E02: control board or heater relay.
• E04: water flow sensor, or a blocked spray arm.
• E14: flow meter not counting water.
• E16, E17: water inlet valve letting in too much water, or excess foam.
• E18, E19: water supply too low, or a water level electronics fault.
• E23: drain pump electrical fault.
• E12: limescale on the heater.
• E27: low supply voltage.

Symptoms without a code

Not cleaning well

Not draining

Dishes come out wet

Leaking from the door

The door seal, a worn lower door gasket, or a spray arm hitting something and throwing water at the door.

Door drops open or will not stay shut

Control panel dead or buttons unresponsive

The control module, a damp ribbon connector, or a door latch switch.

Humming or grinding

A drain pump grinding on debris, a circulation pump bearing, or a spray arm knocking against a tall pot.

Before you call

• Pull and rinse the filter in the floor of the tub.
• Check the drain hose for kinks and confirm it loops up high under the counter.
• For E15, pull the machine forward slightly and tilt it back so the base pan can drain, then see whether the code clears. If it comes straight back, there is an active leak.
• Hold Start for about three seconds to reset the cycle.
